what exactly is a blue chihuahua and what makes a blue chihuahua puppy different from other chihuahua puppies? all chihuahuas are special and unique in their own way, but blue chihuahuas are best described as a chihuahua puppy that is bred to have a dull silver-grey-coat with a tinge of blue.
a blue chihuahua is rare and can be an apple head chihuahua or a deerhead chihuahua and is produced from mating a black and tan chihuahua, a chocolate, or even a fawn parent, but the parents must carry the recessive blue gene in their line of heritage. the blue in a blue chihuahua can also be part of a merle patterned – tri-colored or multicolored coat.
the chihuahua club of america warns that coat color in chihuahuas is often linked to genes with undesirable traits or birth defects. the merle pattern and blue coat color can often come with common health problems. this is another reason that blue chihuahuas are rare.
like teacup chihuahuas, much controversy exists around the subject of breeding blue chihuahuas by blue chihuahua breeders as hidden defects on the gene that is linked to the blue color can result in serious coat problems and other health issues. for these reasons, it is advised to never breed a blue chihuahua with another blue chihuahua.
because blue chihuahuas are rare, there’s a slim chance that you’ll find one in a shelter. in some countries, they are highly prized and can set buyers back up to $10,000 depending on how popular they are. chihuahuas are currently the ‘hot’ dog breed in japan, a country where their fast-growing pet industry is estimated at more than $10 billion a year.
paying high prices for a chihuahua with a particular trait as such is purely the decision of the buyer, however famous chihuahua would like to remind potential chihuahua buyers that rescued chihuahuas like papi the star of beverly hills chihuahua and loki, actor mickey rourke’s dearly departed chihuahua, are prime examples of big surprises than can come in a small package.

Hello, I would get a second opinion from another vet on the health of your chihuahua and I would also get your chihuahua on an essential fatty acid oil formula right away.
Hi all, I have 4 chihuahua’s, The two males are father and son, which are fawn long haired and the females are white and the other is Tri colored and has hazel eyes which is very pretty, they are all long haired though. We love this little pets, they are very much humans. They go on trips with us and sleep with my husband and I. I have had two litters with one female and the white female just had her first litter with a whoopin five babies, the tri colored, Molly has had three babies in both litters, Molly’s Litter this time was one white with brown spots and two blues, they was all males, the white one, Kyra has three females and two males that are all very adorable, they are white and brown spots or I call it cinnamon in color. I had never seen a grey chi, after reading this I have noticed that they are not very common. My males are not registered and the females are. I would not sell these little guys for the world, they are all entertaining and have different personality’s. The first two I got are named after the movie Ghost, Sammy and Molly, and Kyra is named after the movie Crocodiles of Riddick, the chic that was bad ass in the movie and did not take any crap off of no one and thats her personality. I do not breed for a pay check, I done it so when I fix them they had the chance too have babies so they will stay lovable and maybe won’t turn mean. Sammy and Mollys son is named Jasper, off of Twlight, he is a little brat that bits at your ankles if u don’t pay attention too him, lol. Just wanted too share a little about my furry friends that are my children. I love this site too and glad I stumbled across it. Good luck too all and God bless…..
i just had a litter of 3 and i had a tan blue female first one ever. she is so beautiful dad is long hair choc, tan and white and the mom is short hair white with choc circles.i love chihuahua and i breed them not for the money but because i know if someone is going to pay for a puppy then you know that person is going to take care of it.and i always ask the person if they decide the puppy id not for them to give me first chance to buy them back…i love everyone one of my puppy’s sometime i think more then myself. and if it wasnt for some breeder’s you wouldnt have your furry lil’ friend…just a thought
I have a blue chihuahua, Didi. Looks identical to the one in the picture. Can look him up on facebook.com/didi147. Some picks and videos. He is a great dog and is very obedient… some things he can do, Roll over & play dead.
I bred my cinnamon chi (deerhead) with a blue male(applehead) and we got two pups. One was a cinnamon male, too adorable for words, and the one we kept, a blue female. Her facial characteristics don’t fall into one or the other category, but she is a beautiful animal. She entertains us with her silly antics and loves being dressed and babied by my children. She wakes up to the alarm in the morning and howls like a beagle until we get up. A darling addition to our family.
I was so lucky to get Gucci my blue chihuahua…he was brought by someone when he was a puppy for £2000, (he is now 13 months old) as they wanted to breed him (they are apparently chihuahua breeders) :o(. Anyway as he was just to be breed and not a pet he was an unhappy little guy and hes ears didnt stick up they just drooped so due to this they could not breed him and just gave him away and i was the lucky person who got him…with in 3 days of been with me and my family and my other dogs a beige and white long haired chihuahua, a yorkshire terrier and an american bulldog he’s ears are now sticking up lol and have never gone back down…he is gorgeous and we love him millions we have had him now for 2 months and we will not be breeding him he is due to have the snipe next week bless him xoxo
Can someone please tell me the price on a Blue Male Chihuahua,we already got a male but we dont want a female 🙂
My husband and I juat bought 2 pups a short haired white and blue and a long haired tan and blue I didnt even know there was blue chihuahuas but when i saw her she was the smallest little applehead and looked violet so thats her name 🙂
I have a long haired blue chihuahua her name is guianna. i bought her for $250 and i wish i could have had her brother too. she has proven to be the best dog in the whole world!
I have 2 blue chi’s. Born Jun 9th. Both girls. Available to loving homes in about 8 weeks!!
I have a blue chihuahua who was a rescue. He’s been losing hair slowly over time. I never knew it could be because of his breeding. I hate dog breeding even more now. Dogs should be our companion, not a paycheck.
hi I’m Amanda Perez and this blue chihuahua is mine dog Katie baby i can recognized him by the white tip on his tail and the all white paws and the blue eyes and I’m not a crazy person but this is my dog Katie baby i have a plenty of photos of me and this puppy and even some on my dog Katie giving birth to him i named him Junior and i have no idea if you kept his name but I’m 100% sure this is my dog baby i gave it to my dads friend who gave him to her nephew
My Chi is Sable but his dad an granddad are blue
my female chihuahua has long golden blond hair, she just had 3 babies 5/5/10. Two are blue an one takes after dad, sable.
Della, my female only had 3 babies, it seems like most of the owners of chihuahuas were having a much larger litters. Is this something I should be concerned with. The mom an dad are both small, dad is 3lbs an mom is 4lbs, I plan to sale the babies an was just wondering about the size of her litter.
I really love ur website, it’s very interesting
OMG My dog is identical to this one but mine is way cuter lol jk

HEEY!
I have one of those, excactly like that one!! but its all grown!
his name is *BINGO!hhaha
My husband and I bought two blues recently.
They are male and female, brother and sister, both are registered. The brother has the longest pair of legs on a chihuahua I have ever seen. The female is somewhat smaller. They both had blue eyes until about a month ago and now they have hazel eyes. We have decided to get the male fixed and possibly the female as she has alopecia problems that one of the folks wrote about their pup. We had to get both as they would have been lost without each other. My other 3 1/2 pound fawn colored deerhead chihuahua is also registered but she has the little body of the teacup. I am not planning on breeding any of them because their are so many
puppies out there needing homes now. We only have 14 dogs and most of ours have been neutered or spayed. Two are Dump dogs that someone did not want and we are so blessed to have them. One was a black male lab puppy, one a perfectly good lhaso apso (sp) he is housebroken, had been groomed, and we could not believe someone just dumped him. So please spay and neuter unless you are showing
your dogs.
I have a gray/blue with green eyes he is so cute , he was mistreated before we got him he had a shock collar put on him so he did not bark for the first 6-8 weeks we had him he seems to have a very good personality but he is very neurotic and easily scared he does not really like anyone but me, my husband and our daughter. is there anything we can do to help do better around other animals and people.
I would others to see what a great dog too!!!!
looking for a female blue chihuahua no bigger then 4 lbs when full grown pup near montana and north dakota border a few hours drive either direction. let me know if any come available. thanks may consider other color or markings just no more tan pup have 2 full tan dogs looking for something different. thanks again.
I just saw Ramsey and Pablo on Dogs 101, which got me to your site!!! I have 4 Chihuahuas… a brother and sister, Tookie-3#, and Keisha-2#: both chocolate and white. Keisha’s daughter, Keiana-1.5#: white with butterscotch, and Tookie and Keisha’s nephew, Sammie a whopping 4#: all chocolate with a small white patch on his chest. My son gave me Tookie when he was 3 months old, that will be 5 years ago come April!!! We are inseparable!!! A close friend who was breeding her Chihuahua’s, was slowly trimming down her dog community at her farm home. A King Lab and 9 Chihuahua’s were a little much. She asked me if I was interested in Keisha as she was small and figured Tookie would get along with his sister. Not soon after I got Keisha I got a phone call asking me if I was interested in Keisha’s daughter as she to was very small and fragile, Keiana fit in perfectly… So it was me and my 3 Babies… We were all visiting at my friend’s farm and there was a new litter of pups… Yes, you guess it… I fell in Love with this little brown puppy I call Sammie. He was only 4 weeks at that time and he’s been with me since he was 3 months. Very rarely does anyone ask about my human kids… they all wanna know about my 4 legged babies… They are very well taken care of, have a fenced yard to run in, warm blankies to sleep in and plenty of food and water…
I have a blue tri girl with gorgous dark grey coat, and recently bought a blue male. I don’t plan to let them together when she is in season, because have been warned not to breed 2 blues. However when he arrived ,we looked at him and he looks very much chocolate brown.even though his papers say blue. I guess he started out grey and turned brown as many blues do. Now I am wondering if as he is brown he maybe o’k to mate with my blue, when she is old enough. in the meantime I have a cream and white girl just gone into season, and will see how that goes.Thanks.H inNew Zealand
i have a blue chihuahua and his coat is so soft n kind DIFFERENT from most dogs i seen it feels kinda fake but its real
I have an all black chihuahua and she just turned “Sweet Sixteen” in human years, she just lost her front tooth and her hair is thinning alot!!! I love her she’s my big girl!!! How old would she be in dog years and how long do they live?
it is a common belief that 1 human year is equal to 7 dog years. that is not very accurate, since dogs reach adulthood within the first couple of years. there is a formula used by canine experts that’s more accurate. (as accurate as one can judge these things)
the formula is: 10.5 dog years per human year for the first 2 years, then 4 dog years per human year for each year after. onlineconversion.com/dogyears.htm
